Our Story

Kwahuman Global Network (KGN) was officially established in 2016, building upon a vision first articulated in 2007 under the name Kwahu Citizens Abroad. That foundational moment occurred during the Germany Conference marking the 10th Anniversary of Kwahuman Association of Hamburg, when representatives from New York joined their European counterparts to explore a unified diaspora approach to advancing the Kwahu Development Agenda.

What began as a strategic dialogue among committed Kwahu citizens abroad evolved into a structured global network dedicated to education, human capital development, and sustainable community transformation within the Kwahu Traditional Area.

Our Educational Commitment

In 2018, KGN hosted its second Homecoming Fundraiser at Alisa Hotel with a bold objective: to pilot a model educational initiative in Kwahu. This effort led to the establishment of a model school at Kwahu Praso, complete with a computer laboratory designed to introduce digital literacy in a rural setting.

The success of this pilot project brought valuable insight. While infrastructure development such as constructing and renovating school building remains important, long-term educational transformation requires intentional investment in people. As a result, KGN adopted a 10-Year Educational Strategic Vision, aligning its mission with the broader aspirations of Okwahu United of North America.

The Adopt-A-Student Foundation

The turning point for KGN’s educational strategy came through direct student sponsorship. Two twin sisters from Nkyenekye and one young woman from Mpraeso were supported to pursue professional training in nursing and midwifery at:

1) Atibie Nursing and Midwifery Training College

2) Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology

3) Mampong Nursing and Midwifery Training College

Their success demonstrated the transformative power of targeted sponsorship. In response, KGN formally institutionalized the Adopt-A-Student Program and established a legal foundation to scale this initiative. Members across North America and Europe were encouraged to personally sponsor brilliant but financially disadvantaged students pursuing careers in critical professions.

Milestones & Growth

  • September 3, 2024 – The Adopt-A-Student initiative was introduced at the 37th Annual Congress of Okwahu United of North America in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • February 14, 2025 – Official Ghana launch at Asona Kwahu.
  • November 29, 2025 – First overseas fundraiser held in the Bronx, New York.

Our Impact Today

The Adopt-A-Student Program currently:

  • Sponsors 89 students
  • Supported by 54 Kwahuman members and friends worldwide
  • Focuses on professional pathways such as nursing, midwifery, and tertiary education
  • Bridges the diaspora and local communities to foster sustainable development
